As 2016 comes to an end, I thought I would share some of my favorite top 10 free crochet patterns with you. These are all free patterns with links provided. They are in no particular order. All of these patterns are my own opinions. It’s no surprise that I have crocheted A LOT this year, but it’s interesting to see what kind of crochet patterns I’m most drawn to in a given year. I hope you enjoy my favorite top 10 free crochet patterns!

Radiating Ripple Throw (Chevron) Blanket

Ever since I first learned how to crochet, I have been attracted to chevron blankets. I guess I just like the way the stitches and pattern goes up and down. This free pattern can be found on the Red Heart website. What I like about this pattern is that you have two different width sizes, depending on what you are looking for. Once you know the width of your blanket, it’s a basic repeat of the pattern, which you can make as long as you’d like. I love making these because I love choosing the different colors to work with. I love using white and gray colors and pairing it up with a pretty color to make it stand out even more.

Shell Stitch Blanket

I absolutely love this pattern! Amy of The Stitchin’ Mommy does a great job writing it out and explaining everything, so even a beginner crocheter can understand how to make this blanket. It is also very versatile as you can use any color combination you want. You can use two different colors or three, but you can also add many colors or even a solid color as well. What I like about this is the border. Amy does a cute little scalloped edge, which I think is just perfect for a baby blanket. I think the right border on a crochet blanket makes all the difference.

Stashbuster Granny Stripe Blanket

I’ve only ever done granny square blankets, so when I discovered the granny stripe, I knew I had to make a blanket using this stitch. I stumbled upon Amy’s website again and found this pattern. What’s great about this blanket is that you can use up all the scrap yarn you have around your house. You can use all one color or even change it up and have a multitude of colors. This has quickly become one of my favorite patterns. There is just something about a granny stripe, or square, that makes it classic and modern at the same time. A beginner all the way up to a seasoned crocheter can make this blanket.

Divine Hat

This hat is so beautiful! I love the way the stitches form to create a spiral on this hat. It looks complicated to make, but it’s actually very easy. I have made this hat in various solid colors as well as variegated colors. However, you will see the pattern a little easier when using a solid color. This hat is an absolute dream and comes highly recommended from me!

Snowman Hat

This hat is too stinking cute! I came across this pattern as I wanted to make a few hats for the holidays. When I found this snowman hat and instantly fell in love. I gathered up some yarn and began making my first hat. I thought it was cute that the snowman looked like it was wearing a hat. What’s great about this hat is that you can customize it to any color you like. You can also make this hat in a newborn to an adult size. Sarah of Repeat Crafter Me also has well-written patterns that are easy to follow.

Penguin Hat

This is another of Sarah’s clever hat designs. I thought this hat added some extra holiday cuteness. You can either make a regular penguin hat or you can add a cute bow to it. You can also customize this hat to include the poms on either side or skip it altogether. I used this Clover Pom Maker to help achieve this step. It’s your preference on what you like. Much like Sarah’s other patterns, this one was easy to understand. I made a few of these hats in both the boy and girl versions.

Three Button Cowl

I love how this cowl looks! I first found a picture of this type of cowl on Pinterest and have been obsessed with it ever since. FINALLY, I found someone who did a tutorial of one that I liked. After watching this YouTube video, I couldn’t believe how easy it was. You can include any buttons you want, which makes this completely customizable. I’ve crocheted this cowl in bulky weight yarn as well as worsted weight yarn. I have even used two strands of worsted weight yarn together. The possibilities are endless! I always get compliments when I wear this cowl.

One Skein Pet Bed

This is one of my go-to patterns for pet charities. I have donated over 100 pet beds alone this year to Comfort for Critters. I really enjoy the simplicity of this pattern as it’s really quick and easy. There are a ton of variations of this pattern I have done such as holding two strands of yarn together, making the pet mat bigger, and experimenting with tons of different color options. If you have some extra yarn you don’t know what to do with, this is a great project to use it up on!

Harry Potter Pillow

I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, so it’s only fitting that I made this pillow. I followed the instructions for Harry Potter’s face using a bobble stitch. For the back, I did a corner to corner striped design using the red and gold colors. This pattern was very easy to follow and well-written. I did, however, have to adapt the pattern a little. My pillows were a little bit bigger, so I added a few rows to the graph in order for the finished design to fit my pillow form. I gave one pillow to my sister for Christmas last year, and she loved it. I made another pillow for me because I loved it so much!

Sugar Cookie Scarf

Finally, we have this beautiful scarf. I stumbled upon this scarf as I wanted to make something warm for myself. Immediately I was drawn to this light blue color as it had sparkles in it. I found the pattern on the Fiber Flux website and knew this was the pattern for me. It is well-written and easy to understand. It works up quick as it’s a thick yarn and you’re using a big crochet hook. I have a review of this yarn if you’re interested in checking it out. I love how warm this scarf is and how pretty it turned out.

There are my top 10 free crochet patterns of the year.
