Hey everyone! Today I’m going to teach you how to make the Suzette stitch. The Suzette or Thicket stitch is similar to the blanket stitch, which has to be one of my favorite stitches. You can check out how to make the blanket stitch here. The Suzette stitch creates lots of texture, which would be great for making a variety of different projects. All you need to know is how to make the basics: single crochet and double crochet.

For this tutorial, I am using worsted weight yarn and an H-8 (5.0mm) crochet hook. I’m specifically using Caron Simply Soft Yarn and my favorite Clover Amour Hooks. You can purchase the whole set here on Amazon or you can check out my review of them here. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

SUZETTE STITCH TUTORIAL

Materials:

• Caron Simply Soft Yarn (or any yarn to practice)
• H-8 Crochet Hook (or coordinating crochet hook to match yarn)

Note:

The Suzette or Thicket Stitch is worked in an even number of stitches. That means you should have an even number for your starting chain.

Suzette Stitch Tutorial:

To begin your swatch, chain 20.

Row 1: In the 2nd chain from your hook, you will make a single crochet and double crochet in the same stitch. *Skip a chain, and in the chain after that, make a single crochet and a double crochet into the same stitch. Repeat from * until you have 2 chains remaining. Skip 1 chain and in the final chain of your row, make a single crochet. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2: In the very 1st stitch, make a single crochet and a double crochet. *Skip the next stitch (double crochet from previous row) and work a single crochet and double crochet into the next stitch (single crochet from previous row). Repeat from * until you have 2 stitches remaining. Skip 1 stitch and in the final stitch of your row, make a single crochet. Chain 1 and turn.

Rows 3-up: Repeat Row 2.
