Hey everyone! Today I’ll be talking about my spring 2017 craft fair experience. This was my first craft fair of the year, which I was super excited about. It’s always nice to be able to attend different craft fairs to get my name out there and to see what each venue is like. Some venues are better than others, but it’s always a good idea to try out as many different places as you can to see what works best for you. You can always try it once, get a feel for the vibe, and figure out if it’s right for people interested in what you have to sell.

I was lucky enough to attend one local library’s Annual Spring Craft Fair. This is the third year they’ve had it, and I couldn’t be happier. I love attending this craft fair as I feel like I do some of my best selling here. Because it’s in a library setting, there are a bunch of families here, which works well with my niche. I crochet a lot of baby blankets and child-sized hats, so this is the perfect place to showcase all of my wonderful handmade items.  Because I have been there four times, including the fall one they introduced last year, I’ve started to get to know some of the regulars, which is great for connection and networking.

For this craft fair, I wanted to include some brochures to let people know that I have an Etsy Shop. I included all of my policies, mentioned I do custom orders, and even included some pictures of items that I’ve made. I think this is a great way to let people know what you’re all about, especially if they don’t buy something from your booth.  The brochure also gives them my contact information and how they can get a hold of me in many platforms. It makes it a whole lot easier in the long run. You don’t want to leave them wondering how they can find you.

Next, I wanted to incorporate one sign listing all of my prices versus lots of little signs all over my table. I thought it would be better to keep everything together to free up some more space on my table. Each item has a little price tag on it as well, so people can see how much everything costs. I also included my banner in front of my table.

As far as my overall display goes, I still wanted to incorporate different heights to attract customers to my booth. For now, I used a fabric bin to display one of my foam heads. I also purchased a jewelry holder to showcase my coffee cup keychains (free pattern by Repeat Crafter Me). On one side of my table, I have some NIC cubes to display my hats. On the other side, I have two laundry drying racks to display all of my blankets. I’ve done this in the past and found that these were some great ways to display some items while it not taking up space on my table. I also included two more NIC cubes to display my newborn hats. People are able to see these items from a distance as they’re not all flat on the table.

I also tried to group my items together. All my baby blankets, hats, and sweaters are on one side of the table. In the middle I included smaller, low price items such as the keychains, dishcloths, and mug cozies as well as a few toys I have. On the other side I included my hats ranging from toddler to adult. Keeping my items grouped together worked out well as there was some sort of organization to my table rather than things just thrown together. The last thing you want to do is overwhelm people with too many things.

As always, I brought along my Square Card Reader. This is very helpful when it comes to those customers who might want to pay with a credit or debit card instead of cash. Instead of losing a sale, you can swipe their card so you still receive payment. Boy did this come in handy at this craft fair! Unfortunately my iPhone 7’s headphone jack wasn’t compatible with the Square Reader, but luckily my fiancé has the iPhone 6, which worked perfectly and saved a lot of time!

Overall, this was by far my most successful craft fair! I had a lot of sales and a few repeat customers from the previous craft fair I attended in the fall. A few people that came up to my booth also knew how to crochet and commented on how lovely my work is and how rewarding and relaxing crocheting can be. It was great to talk to some fellow crocheters! Even if someone doesn’t buy anything, it always feels good to get complimented. Sometimes, they admire the work, but for example, they don’t know anyone with a baby.  It still feels good and boosts my self-esteem.

I tend to be shy in big crowds, but I felt like I did a great job interacting with others. I even got two custom orders for hats! This location is offering a craft fair in the fall, so I can’t wait to attend that one as well. After I go through my inventory, I’ll have to see what else I need to make so I can restock on that item.
