Hey everyone! Today I’ll be sharing with you my shell stitch scarf pattern as part of my Crochet 101 series. Check out my previous lesson where I teach you how to make the shell stitch. This free pattern will help you learn how to make the shell stitch while also completing a fun project. The completed shell stitch scarf pattern is approximately 7 inches wide by 60 inches long. Follow along with my step-by-step instructions and soon you will have your very own scarf!

Please read below for the written pattern. For a beginner, I recommend sticking to a solid color yarn for now until you get more practice. Using a solid color will help you see the stitches better. However, if you feel ready, go ahead and try switching up colors every few rows. Check out my lesson here where I show you how to change colors in crochet. The great thing about this shell stitch scarf is that you can make it in any color you would like.

SHELL STITCH SCARF PATTERN

Materials:

• I-9 crochet hook
• 1-2 skeins of Caron Simply Soft (I used Robin’s Egg)
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Measuring tape

Finished Size:

7″ wide x 60” long

Pattern:

To begin, you want your foundation chain to be a multiple of 6 stitches plus 1.

Ch 31

Row 1: 2dc in the 4^th chain from your hook. Skip 2 chains and make 1sc in next stitch. *Skip 2 chains and make 4dcs in next stitch. Skip 2 chains and make 1sc in next chain. Repeat from * to end of row. Chain 3 and turn.

Row 2: Make 2dcs in 1^st sc. Skip 2 stitches. *Make 1sc in between the 2^nd and 3^rd dc of next group. Skip 2 stitches, 4dcs in next sc. Next, skip next 2 stitches. Repeat from * to the end of the row, making 1sc in the space between the last dc and the chain 3. Turn and Chain 3.

Row 3-up: Continue working row 2 until 60” long or desired length.

To Finish: Leave at least 6 inches for your tail. Cut yarn. Yarn over your hook and pull through the last stitch of your row and tighten. To weave in all yarn ends, thread your yarn in your tapestry needle and go in between the stitches one way and back the other way. This will help keep your project from coming apart.

You now have your very own shell stitch scarf! This is a great lightweight scarf that’s perfect for those chilly fall days. You will fall in love with the wavy shell design of this scarf. Make one for yourself or for a friend or family member!
