Hey everyone! Today I’m sharing my seed stitch cowl with you. This is a simple pattern that works up quickly and is perfect for the fall season ahead. This cowl is sure to keep you warm as it’s made with chunky yarn. With the button detailing, you can customize this seed stitch cowl to your desire. This seed stitch cowl will look beautiful in a variety of solid colors as well as variegated colors. If you don’t know how to make the seed stitch, refer to this tutorial.
The completed seed stitch cowl measures 11 inches wide and 31 inches long. However, you can change up the sizing of this as long as your starting chain has an even amount of stitches.
The yarn I’m using today is Big Twist Chunky in Slate and Seabreeze. (Unfortunately this yarn has been discontinued, but any #5 bulky weight yarn will work). I used the same yarn to make my shell stitch blanket. I’m also using a size K-10 Clover Amour Crochet Hook. Check out a review of my favorite hooks here. You will also need a tapestry needle, scissors, and one button. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

SEED STITCH COWL
Materials:
- 1-2 skeins of Big Twist Chunky (or any #5 bulky weight yarn)
- K-10 crochet hook (I’m using Clover Amour)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- 1 button (these are great)
Finished Size:
11×31
Pattern:
Ch 30
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 2: Sc in 1st two sts. *Dc in next st and sc in following st. Repeat from * to end of the row (you should end with a sc). Ch 1 and turn.
Row 3: Sc in 1st st, dc in next st. Alternate between sc and dc across entire row. Ch 1 and turn.
Rows 4-up: Repeat row 3 until work measures 31 inches or desired length. Ch 1 and turn.
Final Row: Sc in each st across. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Sew button on one side of the seed stitch cowl. You can customize where you sew the button on depending on what works for you. I attached the button about 7 inches from the bottom of the cowl and 4 1/2 inches from the left side of the cowl. Again, you can fasten your button on wherever you’d like and what’s most comfortable to you. Fasten off tail and weave in ends.
