Today I’ll be sharing my Ribbed Winter Hat pattern with you. Last week I reviewed Red Heart with Love, which is the yarn I used to make this hat. You can check out my review here. This hat is made working a single crochet into the back loops only, which forms a ridge. The end result makes for a stretchy, yet warm hat. I also added a cute faux fur pom on top to complete the look. However, you can either make your own pom with the Clover Pom Maker or skip it altogether. This hat measures 21.5″. To make this hat, you will be working in rows back and forth and sewing it along the side and top. You can also customize this hat by making it wider or longer depending on your preference.
For today’s tutorial, you will need worsted weight yarn (I’m using Red Heart with Love) and a size J-6.0mm crochet hook (I’m using Clover Amour). Feel free to use a variegated color or a solid color to complete this ribbed hat. You can also change colors to achieve the look you’re going for! RIBBED WINTER HAT PATTERN
MATERIALS:
- J-6.0mm Crochet Hook
- 1 skein of Red Heart with Love in Holly Berry (or any worsted weight yarn)
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle
- (Optional) Faux Fur Pom
FINISHED SIZE:
21.5”

Chain 41
ROW 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across. Chain 1 and turn.
ROW 2: sc in back loop only of each stitch across
Repeat row 2 until hat measures 16” or until desired length. Do not fasten off.
Turn work on its side and slip stitch hat together along long side of hat. Fasten off, but leave a tail that’s 3x as long. Sew in and out of the stitches on the top of your hat. Pull tight to close and weave in your ends. Attach optional pom on top and fold up bottom to form a brim.
