Today I’m reviewing Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie yarn. This is one of the newest cotton yarns available from Red Heart. I picked up this yarn because I plan on making some spa cloths for an upcoming craft fair. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try out this yarn. You can purchase this yarn online or you can see if your local Joann Fabrics store has this in stock.

Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie is a 100% cotton yarn that comes in 30 different colors. The solid colors come in a 3.5oz skein with a total of 153 yards whereas the multicolored skeins come in a 3oz skein with a total of 131 yards. Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie is considered a #4 worsted weight yarn. The recommended hook size is a size I-9 crochet hook and the recommended needle size is a US 8. This yarn is machine washable.

I ended up picking up a few different colors of Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie yarn. The colors I chose were White, Grey, Loofah, Caribbean, and Aqua. Again I plan on making some spa cloths to include in a spa gift basket for an upcoming craft fair. I thought these colors would be perfect because they’re very calming.

Upon first picking up this yarn , I noticed how soft it was. Some cotton yarns I used in the past didn’t seem to be as soft as this one as they tend to be a little rougher. However, I found Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie yarn to be incredibly soft. I would probably almost compare it to Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton yarn.

Working with this yarn has been a dream. This yarn moves smoothly through my hook and doesn’t split as much as some other cotton yarns would. Frogging this yarn is also simple and doesn’t cause any issues. This yarn is definitely something you can use in projects other than spa cloths or dishcloths. You can use this for baby items, fashion accessories, and market bags. Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie yarn would work perfectly with my Market Bag Pattern.

When washing this yarn, you want to make sure you wash it in a cold cycle and dry flat. Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie still comes out soft and squishy as it was before washing it. However, I did notice that this yarn seemed to plump up ever so slightly. It also doesn’t shed after washing, which can happen with natural fiber yarns before they’re washed. Another great thing about this yarn is that the colors don’t bleed together.

Overall, I recommend using Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie yarn as it’s a great cotton yarn that can be used for a variety of projects beyond the standard dishcloth or spa cloth. It’s softer than other cotton yarns I’ve used in the past and comes in a great variety of solid colors and multicolored prints. What more can you ask for in a cotton yarn? I can definitely see myself purchasing this yarn again in the future. I will include my spa cloth pattern soon, so be on the lookout for that!
