Today I’m going to be doing a yarn review on Red Heart Holiday yarn. This Christmas colored yarn comes out around the holidays, although I’m sure you can find it online somewhere, too. The Red Heart Holiday line comes in 8 different colors with a strand of metallic woven into it. The colors include (yarn color/metallic): aran/gold, black/silver, green/green, green/silver, hunter/gold, red/red, red/silver, white/silver, and wine/gold. As you can see you have a variety of options to choose from. This yarn is classified as a size 4-worsted weight yarn and uses a size H-8 crochet hook or a size US 8 knitting needles.

I bought 3 skeins each of the white/silver, red/red, and green/green as I wanted to focus on making a Christmas tree skirt with it. I went searching online for one that I liked and finally settled on this one. The pattern was written easily enough and even included a graph to help you understand where to start each row. Basically you start by making each of the granny squares and then go on to make the rest of the tree skirt. I had no trouble making the granny squares. However, I messed up when it came time to sewing them together. I guess I was looking at the graph wrong or something because I started crocheting the squares together and didn’t know I was doing anything wrong until the third row. It didn’t take too long to frog it, but I was sure to pay extra close attention after that.

Overall, I found the yarn to be a little scratchy (probably caused by the metallic), but as I wasn’t using it for a wearable item, it was fine. I would definitely keep this in mind if you intend to make a hat or something with this yarn. Maybe washing it would help soften it up a little. Anyway, it was very easy to work with, and I had no trouble when I had to take part of my work apart. The tree skirt didn’t take up as much yarn as I thought it would, so I still have at least 1 full skein of each color left for other projects in the future. I’m not sure I would buy this type of yarn again though.
