Hey everyone! Today I’m reviewing Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend Yarn. I first noticed this yarn when checking out my local Walmart’s craft aisle. I’ve never seen this yarn before, so I thought I would give it a try. You can also find this yarn on the Lion Brand website. While my local Walmart didn’t have a lot of color options available, I wanted to pick up a few colors to try it out. I already had the perfect project in mind, so I couldn’t wait to get started.
LION BRAND COMFY COTTON BLEND STATS
Each cake is 50% cotton and 50% polyester and is machine washable and dryable. They are each 392 yards (358 meters) or 7oz (200 grams). Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend Yarn is considered a #3 lightweight yarn, however, I would also consider it a lightweight #4 yarn (think Caron Simply Soft). The recommended hook size is a J-10 (6mm) and the recommended needle size is a US 7 (4.5mm).
REVIEW OF LION BRAND COMFY COTTON BLEND
I’ve been obsessed with cake yarns lately, so it’s only natural that I would gravitate towards Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend Yarn. This yarn is nice and soft and has a nice squish to it. It’s available in 20 different colors, which is a nice variety for this line. There are a few solids in this collection as well as some variegated colors, so there is something for everyone.
Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend Yarn would be perfect for baby gifts, summer shawls, and shrugs. You can also make a scarf or a hat using this yarn. This yarn is intended more for fashion garments than it is for use in the kitchen. You can find a knit or crochet pattern on the label to show off what this yarn will look like. The free pattern is available on the Lion Brand website. Because of the size of this cake, it allows for crocheters and knitters to work an entire scarf or other small project with one cake, eliminating the needs to change colors and weave in all those ends.
COLORS I PICKED UP
Because of the limited stock at my Walmart, I only had a few colors to choose from, which wasn’t a big deal as I just wanted to pick up a few color to start out with anyway. I ended up picking up three different colors: Whipped Cream, Chai Latte, and Cloud Nine.
Whipped Cream as you can imagine is a beautiful cream color. This is the color I fell in love with first.
Chai Latte is a combination of light pink, cream, light brown, and a dark plum purple. I also fell in love with this color.
The final color I picked up was Cloud Nine. This is a combination of blues and purples mixed in with some gray.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Overall, I recommend picking up Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend Yarn and trying it out for yourself. There are so many different projects you can make using only one or two cakes of yarn. I thought it was odd that it’s considered a lightweight yarn, yet it recommends a bigger crochet hook. Most lightweight yarns I’ve encountered don’t recommend a hook size bigger than an H-8 (5mm).
Other than that, I feel like this yarn glides across my crochet hook with ease. Looking at the different color options available, there is something for everyone, and you can even mix the solid colors with the variegated colors as well. So far, my favorite color is the Whipped Cream color as I feel like it’s one of the more beautiful cream shades I’ve seen. This is a nice soft yarn collection that I feel you will get a lot of use with the various spring, summer, and fall projects you can make using this yarn.
