Hey everyone! Today I’m going to show you how to make the granny stripe stitch. This is a different take on the traditional granny square. The granny stripe is worked up in rows instead of in the round.
Do you have a lot of yarn you want to use up? The granny stripe is a great way to use up your leftover yarn! A blanket or a scarf would look great in many different colors. As long as you know how to make a double crochet, you will be able to whip up this stitch in no time!
To get started with today’s tutorial, you will need some worsted weight yarn. I used Deborah Norville Everday. You will also need a size I-9 crochet hook. Gather up your supplies and let’s begin!

To begin, you will need to make a chain in a multiple of 3+1. That means you will chain 3+3+3+3 until your desired length and add one more chain to the end. For the purposes of this tutorial, you will chain 31.
Row 1: 2dc in 4th chain from hook. *Skip 2sts and make 3dcs into the next st. Repeat from * to the end. Chain 3 and turn.
Row 2: *3dc in between the next 3dc clusters from previous row. Repeat from * to the end. 1dc into the top of your turning chain. Chain 3 and turn.
Row 3: 2dc into the space between the 1dc and 3dc cluster from the previous row. *3dc into the space between the next 3dc clusters from the previous row. Repeat from * to the end. Make 3dc into the space between the last 3dc cluster and the turning chain. Chain 3 and turn.
To continue making the granny stripe stitch, you will repeat rows 2 and 3 until you’re desired length.
