Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my newest beginner crochet pattern, the Forest Stripes Baby Blanket. This baby blanket is made using the griddle stitch, which is alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches. To minimize the amounts of yarn ends to weave in, you will carry up the yarn along the side of your blanket. Don’t worry, we’ll add a border to hide the carried yarn.
The Forest Stripes Baby Blanket is made using 100% acrylic yarn in three different colors. However, this striped baby blanket would be pretty in just about every color combination out there. The possibilities are truly endless!
For the Forest Stripes Baby Blanket, I used Patons Canadiana. However, you can use whatever yarn you’d like. I also used a size H-8 (5.0mm) crochet hook. I highly recommend using my favorite crochet hooks, Clover Amour. You will also need a tapestry needle and a pair of scissors. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!
Forest Stripes Baby Blanket
Materials:
- (2) skeins each of Patons Canadiana in Pale Grey Mix, Medium Green Tea, and Dark Green Tea
- H-8 (5.0mm) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Size:
31 x 31
Notes:
- You can change up the sizing of this blanket by making an odd number of chains.
- You will always double crochet into a single crochet and single crochet into a double crochet.
- I changed colors every two rows and carried the yarn up the side of the blanket to minimize the amount of ends to weave in.

Forest Stripes Baby Blanket Pattern:
With Medium Green Tea, CH 95
Row 1 SC in first stitch, DC in next stitch. Alternate between SC and DC across the entire row. You will end with a DC in the last CH. Pull through with Pale Grey Mix just before finishing your last DC. Do not cut Medium Green Tea yarn. CH 1 and turn.
Row 2 SC into the DC from previous row, DC in next SC stitch. Alternate SC and DC across the row, ending with a DC in the last stitch. CH 1 and turn.
Repeat Row 2 changing colors every 2 rows and carrying the yarn up the side of your blanket. Your color changes will be as follows: Medium Green Tea, Pale Grey Mix, Dark Green Tea.
I made my blanket 116 rows, starting and ending with Medium Green Tea. After Row 116, do not cut the yarn as you will use this for your border. Weave in all other tails before continuing with the border.
BORDER
Round 1 With Medium Green Tea, SC around entire blanket, making 3 SC in each corner. When hiding the carried yarn, be sure to crochet over this. SL ST together and cut yarn.
Round 2 With Pale Grey Mix, HDC around entire blanket, making 3 HDC in each corner. SL ST to beginning HDC. Fasten off and weave in ends.
