Floating Squares Baby Blanket

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my newest crochet pattern, the Floating Squares Baby Blanket. This super soft, handmade baby blanket is made using beginner stitches with a cute mini shell border. It is the perfect baby afghan for a newborn baby and would also be an excellent baby shower gift that would be treasured for years to come.

For the Floating Squares Baby Blanket, I used Caron Simply Soft Yarn. However, you can use whatever #4 worsted weight yarn you’d like. I also used a size J-10 (6.0mm) crochet hook. I highly recommend using my favorite crochet hooks, Clover Amour. You will also need a tapestry needle and a pair of scissors. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Floating Squares Baby Blanket

Materials:

Size:

30″ x 32″ without border

32″ x 34″ with border

Notes:

  • This blanket is worked in a multiple of 5 plus 3. This means you will multiply any number by 5 to get your desired width. Once satisfied, you will add 3 chains to the very end.
  • Chain 3 in pattern counts as a double crochet.
  • The chain 2 for the border does not count as a stitch.
  • “Boxed” stitches consist of 5 double crochets worked into the same stitch.
  • You will change colors every 6 rows, so each color has 3 “boxes”.
