Hi everyone! Today I’m going to review the book Crochet Saved My Life by Kathryn Vercillo.
This book talks about the author’s personal experience in dealing with depression and how crochet saved her life. She also explains different reasons why crochet can be helpful for those who suffer various illnesses using research information. Kathryn also conducts personal interviews with those that have found crocheting to be a positive influence in their lives.
Crochet Saved My Life is filled with story after story of people healing from tragedies and illnesses all with a hook and some yarn. I applaud all of the people in this book for being brave enough to share their story in a public way. For me, there are times when I feel anxious or stressed and turn to crochet to help calm me down. The repetitive motion helps get my mind off things.
I did find that the book can be a little repetitive at times, but I wonder if it was presented that way on purpose. This would allow readers who may be struggling with their own issues to connect the dots a little easier and keep them engaged with reading. This book provides great insight on the ability of any hobby to contribute to the healing process without dismissing the need for sustained support, medication, and therapy. Many issues discussed have no cure, but there are positive coping strategies.
I think Crochet Saved My Life will speak to a lot of people. Whether the sufferer is a loved one or yourself, I think this book is a useful read and reinforces my thought that a creative goal to work towards is restorative. I strongly believe creating something with your own hands is good medicine and is very therapeutic. I strongly recommend giving this book a read!

You’re very welcome Kathryn! I really did enjoy this book as it’s very inspirational. I strongly believe crafting can help people, and more people should read this book! ?❤️
I wish I had read this book decades ago when I was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Crocheting and crafting, most any creative hobby… is truly the best therapy and medicine. For me, at least. It keeps me busy doing something that I love and that inspires me. It also makes me and others happy when I give my one-of-a-kind crochet creations as gifts.
I’m so glad that crafting has helped you and is the best therapy for you. I understand how you feel as I’m happiest when I see others enjoy my finished items. You should check this book out!
