Crochet Baby Burp Cloth

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing with you my newest crochet pattern, the Crochet Baby Burp Cloth. This burp cloth is made using one of my favorite stitches, the sedge stitch. It’s a one-row repeat, which makes it beginner-friendly and quick to make.

For the Crochet Baby Burp Cloth, I chose two different cotton yarns. One of the yarns is Caron Cotton Ripple Cakes, which is a #3 lightweight 100% cotton yarn. The other yarn I used is Caron Cotton Angel Cakes, which is a #4 worsted weight 60% cotton, 40% acrylic yarn. Both turned out great!

However, you can use any lightweight #3 yarn you’d like. You can even use a worsted weight #4 if you so choose. Experiment with using all cotton yarn or a cotton blend yarn to see which you prefer. I also used a size H-8 crochet hook. My favorite crochet hooks to use are the Clover Amour. You will also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Size:

10 wide x 20 long

Notes:

  • To change the width of this burp cloth, you will chain in a multiple of 3.
  • The chain 1 at the beginning of each row counts as your first single crochet.
  • You can get at least two burp cloths out of one cake of yarn depending on how big you make them.

CH 42

Row 1: Working in the 3rd CH from hook, make a HDC and DC into the same stitch. *Skip 2 CHS and make a SC, HDC, and DC all into the next stitch. Repeat from * until you have 3 CHS left. Skip 2 CHS and make a SC into the last CH. CH 1 and turn.

Row 2: Make a HDC and DC into the very first stitch (the CH 1 will count as your SC). Next, *skip 2 stitches (HDC and DC from previous row) and make a SC, HDC, and DC into the next stitch (SC from previous row). Repeat from * until you have 3 stitches left. You will skip 2 stitches and make a SC into the turning chain. CH 1 and turn.

Repeat Row 2 until the burp cloth measures 20 inches or your desired length. For me, this ended up being 60 rows. However, this might be different for you. CH 1 and continue to border.

BORDER
