Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my newest crochet pattern, the Christmas Hot Pad. To make this hot pad, you will crochet two panels and sew them together to make them extra thick. The texture on them is just wonderful! With the upcoming holiday season, you can make a bunch and gift them to friends and family.

The Christmas Hot Pad is made using 100% cotton yarn in three different colors. However, this cotton hot pad can be made using any color combination. I suggest using 100% cotton yarn as this is more durable to withstanding hotter temperatures than other yarns.

For the Christmas Hot Pad, I used Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton. However, you can use whatever cotton yarn you’d like. I also used a size H-8 (5.0mm) crochet hook. I highly recommend using my favorite crochet hooks, Clover Amour. You will also need a tapestry needle and a pair of scissors. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Christmas Hot Pad

Materials:

• (1) skein each of Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton in Red, White, and Sage Green
• H-8 (5.0mm) crochet hook
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Size:

7″ x 7″

Notes:

• Corner to corner crochet (c2c) is a technique that works just as it sounds–you crochet little “boxes” at a diagonal, increasing each row by one box until your project is tall and wide enough, at which point you start decreasing each row.

• To create the double layer hot pad, you will make two squares and crochet them together.

ROW 1: CH 6, DC into the 4th CH from hook, DC in the next 2 CH

ROW 2: CH 6, DC in 4th CH from hook and next 2 CH, SL ST into the CH-3 space from the previous row, CH 3, 3 DC in CH-3 space

ROWS 3-7: Repeat Row 2

Corner to Corner Crochet Decrease:

Instead of chaining 3, SL ST in each DC,SL ST into CH-3 space, CH 3, 3 DC in CH-3 space

Color Sequence:

Red-7 Rows Increase

Green-3 Rows Increase, 2 Rows Decrease

White-7 Rows Decrease

Make 2 identical hot pad squares before making the border.

Border

Round 1: Line up squares evenly and tuck ends into the center of the hot pad. CH 1, SC in first corner, SC along the side, 3 SC in corner, SC evenly along bottom, 3 SC in corner, SC along side, 3 SC in corner, SC evenly along the top, 2 SC in final corner, CH 10 for hanging loop, SL ST to beginning. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
