Hey everyone! As I’m sure you’re aware, the new Caron Cotton Cake Yarn has arrived! This is super exciting because there are some changes to these Cotton Cakes since last year. The most noticeable one is the sizing of the Caron Cotton Cake Yarn. Once I saw these were available on the Michaels website, I knew I had to get my hands on them. Let’s jump right into the overview of them.
Please see this link for my original review of the Caron Cotton Cakes.
CARON COTTON CAKE STATS
Each cake is 60% cotton and 40% acrylic and is machine washable and dryable. As I mentioned above, the sizing of the Caron Cotton Cakes are significantly bigger than previous years. The original Caron Cotton Cakes were 211 yards or 3.5oz., while these newest cakes are 530 yards or 8.8oz. That’s a whole lotta yarn! This is also classified as a #4 worsted weight yarn. The recommended hook size is a H-8 (5mm) and the recommended needle size is a US 7 (4.5mm).
REVIEW OF CARON COTTON CAKE YARN
This new version feels the exact same way as the original. It’s super soft and glides on my crochet hook with ease. Caron Cotton Cake Yarn is intended to be used as more of a fashion yarn than something you would use in the kitchen to wash your dishes. However, I’ve heard that some people have used this yarn for dishcloths and it not being a problem. It’s all personal preference.
I love the fact that this newer line comes with some solid colors, making it perfect to pair with some of the other colors. I also love the bigger size of the Caron Cotton Cake Yarn. As someone who enjoys making blankets, these giant cakes will be perfect to make blankets with as well as other home decor projects. I already have some ideas swirling in my head.
While this yarn is classified as a worsted weight yarn, I feel like it could be classified as a #3 light weight yarn as well. It’s on the thinner side for a worsted weight yarn and reminds me of Caron Simply Soft.
CARON COTTON CAKE COLORS
Here are some of the colors that I picked up:
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Overall, I highly recommend checking the Caron Cotton Cake Yarn. They’re super soft and with the bigger size, you’re able to complete bigger projects. Even though it’s considered a worsted weight yarn, I feel like this yarn is lightweight and perfect for spring/summer projects. My favorite color in this line is Beachglass, but some of the newer colors, such as Driftwood, is really pretty. I’m excited to get started on another project using this yarn!
