Caron Chunky Cakes Yarn Review

Today I’m reviewing the new Caron Chunky Cakes Yarn. I absolutely LOVE the yarn from the Caron Cake Shop, which you can find exclusively at Michaels stores or online at michaels.com. When I found out a new version came out last week I knew I had to snatch some up!

Caron Chunky Cakes are 100% acrylic, which makes it a great candidate for those that have a wool allergy. It’s also considered a #6 super bulky weight yarn, which makes it a great yarn to use for chunky blankets and cold-weather accessories. This yarn has a five color striping effect, which makes it easy to complete projects without having to keep changing colors. Caron Chunky Cakes are also machine washable, so your projects will last a long time.

Check out my other reviews in the Caron Cake line: Original Caron Cake, Caron Tea Cake, Caron Baby Cake, Caron Cotton Cake, Caron Big Cake, and Caron Cupcake

Each Caron Chunky Cake is 9.8oz or 297 yards. This collection comes in 16 beautiful colors ranging from neutral tones to bright, rich colors. They work up like the Tea Cakes, but because they’re 100% acrylic, they’re must softer! For the crocheters out there, the suggested hook size is a size L-11 and for the knitters a size US 11.

The ones I chose are 4 cakes of Mystic Chip, 1 cake of Rice Pudding, and 1 cake of Twist of Lime. I made a cowl using Rice Pudding and Twist of Lime. With Mystic Chip, I decided on making a blanket. You can check out my pattern here.

Here’s what each color looks like:

Overall, I would recommend checking out Caron Chunky Cakes out as it’s so squishy and soft. I love the colors in this collection and hope they keep this collection around for a long time. I’ve been obsessed with working with chunky weight yarn lately, so this was a nice addition to my ever growing yarn stash.
