Hey everyone! Today I’m reviewing the Bracken Cardigan by Heidi May of The Velvet Acorn. Last year I made the Envision Cardigan, so I thought I would try out another pattern of hers. Like the Envision Cardigan, this is a paid for pattern, which you can find here.
Have you tried the Bracken Cardigan before? Let me know by leaving me a comment below.
First off, I love how this sweater pattern is available in multiple sizes. This is great, especially if you plan on making this for a gift for someone. I did not have the same yarn that the pattern called for, so I substituted the yarn with Lion Brand Heartland. I’ve worked with this yarn before and find it to be very easy to work with and durable. You can check out my review here.
Working up this sweater was easy. The only trouble I had was making the hood. I originally made the hood way too big, so I had to frog half of it back in order to get the correct sizing. This was just a personal preference as I have a smaller head. The pattern was written well and I had no trouble understanding the terminology this time around. Heidi May provides so much detail to her patterns for every size, which shows off how talented she really is. The photography of her patterns are top notch as they show off every detail perfectly, so you know exactly what the finished product will look like.
Overall, I enjoyed making the Bracken Cardigan. However, if I plan on making this again, I want to try out the same yarn that was used in the original design. The yarn is just too beautiful! This pattern requires some skill that a true beginner may not be able to understand, so that’s something to keep in mind. However, if you take your time like I did, it’ll start to make sense. You can also contact the designer and she can answer your question(s) about the pattern as well.
I hope you enjoyed today’s pattern review on the Bracken Cardigan by Heidi May of the Velvet Acorn. This is a wonderful pattern that’s available in multiple sizes, so everyone in the family can have their own cardigan. Have you made this pattern before? What are your thoughts?
