Beginner Crochet Velvet Scarf

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing with you my newest crochet pattern, the Beginner Crochet Velvet Scarf. This velvet scarf is made with one simple stitch called the wide half double crochet (HDC) or half double crochet (HDC) in between the posts. This stitch is great for beginners because it helps keep the velvet nice and tight so you can avoid having any loose loops getting pulled up. This stitch is just like a regular HDC except you’re inserting your hook in between the posts of the row below.

The Beginner Crochet Velvet Scarf is made using Bernat Baby Velvet Yarn. This is different from Bernat Velvet Yarn. Bernat Baby Velvet yarn is a lighter weight yarn and is machine washable. Regular Bernat Velvet Yarn is a heavier weight and is hand wash only. However, you can use any velvet yarn you’d like! I also used a size H-8 crochet hook. My favorite crochet hooks to use are the Clover Amour. You will also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

Beginner Crochet Velvet Scarf

Materials:

1 skein of Bernat Baby Velvet in Misty Gray (I used 1 of the bigger 10.5oz skeins)
H-8 crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors

Size:

7.5” wide x 58” long

Chain 24

Row 1: Work a HDC in the 3^rd chain from the hook. Complete a HDC in each chain across. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2: Insert your hook underneath all the loops the HDC made and to the left of the stitch post (HDC in between the posts). Work across the row, making sure the last HDC is in between the last post and the chain 1 turning chain. Chain 1 and turn.

Repeat Row 2 until the scarf measures 60 inches or your desired length. Cut yarn and weave in your ends.
