Do you have extra yarn you don’t know what to do with? Do you have scraps of yarn leftover from previous projects? If this sounds like you, there is a solution! Clean out your crochet supplies with these stashbuster and scrapbuster crochet projects. Nobody likes to see craft supplies go to waste, but with these 5 ways to use up leftover yarn, you will find a use for all of your yarn!

Make a Blanket

When in doubt, make a blanket. This is great if you have a lot of stash yarn, but don’t know what to do with it. Try putting a few different color combinations together and see what you come up with. When it comes to making a blanket, the possibilities are endless! Check out this Stashbuster Granny Stripe Blanket, which is one of my favorites. I also have my own crochet blanket pattern using Caron Cake yarn, however, you can use any worsted weight yarn you have.

Make Dishcloths/Washcloths and Potholders

When I have a lot of leftover cotton yarn, I like to make items such as dishcloths/washcloths. This is a quick and easy project that also makes a great gift. You could crochet a few washcloths, add in some body wash and lotion, and give it to someone as a mini spa gift set. I also recommend checking out Crochet for the Kitchen by Tove Fevang. You will find a variety of different patterns that will definitely help use up your scrap yarn. I’ve enjoyed making the different dishcloths in this book. I also recommend this pattern and this pattern.

You can also make potholders. This tutorial is great and is one of my favorites. This potholder is extra thick, which makes it perfect for handling hot pots and pans.

Make a Pet Bed

Another great stashbuster or scrapbuster project to work on is a pet bed. I make a lot of these pet beds for Comfort for Critters. This charity provides a warm blanket to comfort shelter animals as they’re awaiting adoption. The blanket then goes with the animal once they’re adopted so they have something familiar to help with the transition. I find that I lean towards this pattern when I have a lot of extra yarn I want to use up. I have made tons of these pet beds using a variety of different colors, holding two or three strands together, as well as practicing different stitches.

Make a Hat

There are a TON of free hat patterns out there to try! They don’t use up that much yarn, which makes it a great project to use up leftover yarn. You can customize your hat to be any color as well as make hats for newborns all the way up to adults. I HIGHLY recommend this Divine Hat pattern if you are looking for a beautiful looking hat. Some newborn and child hats I recommend are these: Puppy Hat and Easy Striped Hat.

Make a Scarf or Cowl

Making a scarf is a great beginner project that anyone can enjoy. You can use your imagination to come up with all sorts of different color combinations. You can even practice different stitches when you make your scarves. Some scarf patterns I recommend are the Two Tone Waffle Scarf, the Sugar Cookie Scarf, and the Margaret Button Cowl all by Jennifer of Fiber Flux.
