Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing with you my newest crochet pattern, the 3D Puffy Shell Blanket. This is a great beginner-friendly crochet pattern that uses a variation of the shell stitch. The 3D Puffy Shell Blanket consists of a two row repeat and can be made in a variety of different colors.
The 3D Puffy Shell Blanket is made using Red Heart Soft Yarn in Mod Blue, Seafoam, Off White, and Biscuit. However, you can use any #4 worsted weight yarn you have in your yarn stash. I also used a size J-10 crochet hook. My favorite crochet hooks to use are the Clover Amour. You will also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle. Gather your supplies and let’s begin!

3D Puffy Shell Blanket Pattern:
Ch 116 (or any multiple of 6+2)
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, *skip 2 chs, 7dcs in next ch, skip 2chs, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across. You will end with a sc in the last ch. Chain 3 and turn.
Row 2: 3dc in blo of 1st sc, *skip 3dcs, sc in next st, skip 3 dcs, 7dcs in blo of sc. Repeat from * across. Make 4dc in blo of last st. Ch1 and turn.
Row 3: sc in 1st st, *skip 3sts, 7dcs in blo of next st, skip 3sts, sc in next st. Repeat from * across. Make a sc in last st. Ch3 and turn.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until your desired length. When finished, cut yarn and weave in all your ends. Continue to border below.
Color Sequence:
I did 4 rows of each color. You will have a total of 5 mod blue sections, 4 seafoam sections, 4 off white sections, and 4 biscuit sections. If you decide to make your blanket longer, you will have more sections.
Border:
Round 1: Using Seafoam (or any color you choose), ch2 in any st (ch2 does not count as a st). Make a hdc in each st around, making sure to put 3hdcs in each corner. Sl st to beginning ch and cut yarn.
Round 2: Using Off White, ch2 in any st (ch2 does not count as a st). Make 4hdcs in same st, *skip next st, and sc in st after that. Skip the next st and make 4hdcs in next st. Repeat from * all the way around your blanket. Sl st to the beginning and cut yarn. Weave in all your ends.
