Today I’ll be sharing my 3 Button Cowl Pattern with you. This cowl pattern is super popular right now as it’s very stylish and customizable. By working into the back loop only, you will get a nice ribbed effect. This results in an extra thick and warm cowl. Paired with 3 large coconut buttons, you have a few different options on how to wear this cowl. The 3 button cowl is worked using double crochet stitches, which makes it a beginner-friendly pattern. The finished cowl measures 12 wide by 33 length. However, you can customize this cowl to be wider or longer depending on your preference.

For today’s tutorial, you will need bulky weight yarn (I’m using Caron Tea Cakes) and a size N-10mm crochet hook (I’m using Clover Amour). You can also use two strands of worsted weight yarn together. I recommend Lion Brand Heartland Yarn (see my review here). (PLEASE NOTE: Caron Tea Cakes have been discontinued. Another alternative is Bernat Softee Chunky). Gather up your supplies and let’s begin!

3 BUTTON COWL PATTERN

MATERIALS:

• N-10mm crochet hook
• 1.5 skeins of Bernat Softee Chunky (or any other bulky weight yarn; approx. 204 yards)
• 3 large coconut buttons
• Scissors
• Tapestry Needle

FINISHED SIZE:

12×33

Chain 62

ROW 1: Dc in 2^nd chain from hook and in each stitch across. Chain 2 and turn.

ROW 2: Dc in BLO across entire row. Chain 2 and turn.

ROWS 3-12: Dc in BLO across entire row. Chain 2 and turn. Your work should measure about 12 inches wide. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Place buttons on long side either on the left or right side of cowl depending on your preference. Buttons should be about 2 inches apart. Sew on using your tapestry needle and length of same color yarn. Weave in ends.

Wear over your shoulders

Fold cowl evenly in half and use two buttons for closure
