Welcome to my 2019 year-end crafty goals update! I started making crafty goals for myself a few year ago and thought it would be fun to carry on that tradition moving forward. With 2019 year-end crafty goals, I am giving you an update on my progress for the entire year. I think this is a fun way to keep track of what crafty goals I’m doing and to see what else I can accomplish throughout the year.
For this year, I wanted to include some of the same crafty goals as last year, but also include some new crafty goals. There are certain things I want to work on in order to expand my little crochet business even more. These goals are in no particular order. Without further ado, here is my 2019 year-end crafty goals update!
2019 Year-End Crafty Goals #1: Make More YouTube Videos
I started my YouTube channel last year in hopes of sharing my crochet patterns, yarn reviews, and tutorials with others. As of writing this, I just hit 10K subscribers, which makes me super proud! You can follow me and subscribe to my channel here: Amanda Crochets.
PROGRESS: I realize that this was too broad of a goal. While, I’ve made some videos throughout the year, I never had a clear goal in mind as far as how many videos I would post. I still feel a little nervous when it comes to making videos, which is why I tend to shy away from them. I would like to improve with this in the coming years, as it’s a great visual tool to help others learn how to make different stitches/patterns. (GOAL-ongoing)
Would I continue this goal?
Yes, I would like to continue with this goal. The only thing I would change is that I would make it more specific. For example, I may set my goal as making 20 videos in the next year instead of simply ‘I want to make more YouTube videos’. I feel like having a specific amount of videos would help keep me on track. Plus, the more videos I make, the better I’ll become at not being so nervous.
Crafty Goals #2: Learn How to Sew
I’ve been itching to learn how to sew. Learning to sew would be awesome as I would learn the skills needed to eventually make my own project bags among other things. I would love to learn how to sew as you can create so many different things with a sewing machine. I always love looking at the different fabrics available as well.
PROGRESS: I haven’t worked on this goal at all. I still would like to learn how to sew, but I just haven’t had time. (GOAL-not completed)
Would I continue this goal?
Yes, I would like to continue this goal. I would still love to learn how to sew, so I’m hoping to make more time to really learn New Year. I have a friend that knows how to sew, so it’s just a matter of finding time to get together and really learn this new skill.
Crafty Goals #3: Work through My Yarn Stash
I’ve tried to make it a goal to work through my yarn stash as much as possible. While I’m not going to deprive myself of buying yarn (either for specific projects or it’s just pretty yarn I have to have), I feel like I can make something beautiful out of the yarn that I already have. If I have any leftover yarn from previous projects, I tend to make pet beds or hats out of them and donate them to charity. This has been a great way to not only use up some yarn, but also to give back as well.
PROGRESS: I realize that this might be another broader goal, but I feel like it’s a necessary one to have. I don’t want to keep accumulating yarn and then never end up using it. While I may buy yarn throughout the year and not know exactly what project to use it for at that time, I feel it’s still best to use up as much yarn as possible and make beautiful things with it. (GOAL-ongoing)
Would I continue this goal?
Absolutely! I love working through my yarn stash and seeing what colors I have that I can put together. Sometimes I even surprise myself at the different colors that I have because I might have forgotten I had that particular yarn or color. Again, I will always buy yarn, but if I can also use up the yarn that I buy, that would be awesome.
As far as how much yarn I’ve used up this year, I’ve been able to use up 184 skeins, which is approximately 58,889 yards. WOW!
Crafty Goals #4: Design More Crochet Patterns
I started designing crochet patterns a few years ago. I’ve enjoyed the process as I enjoy putting different color combinations together and seeing what the end result looks like. While I may not be as talented as other pattern designers out there, I’m very happy with the progress that I’ve made over the years.
I made it a goal to design 15 crochet patterns this year.
PROGRESS: Unfortunately, I did not complete my goal for this year. I only ended up making 10 of 15 crochet patterns this year. This is in part of me focusing on a few craft fairs I had as well as me falling into a crochet slump. During that time, I didn’t feel motivated, so I just ended up working on some projects that I’ve made in the past. I’m hoping next year I’ll find some more inspiration and can come up with some new patterns. (GOAL-not completed)
Here are the patterns I’ve designed this year:
- Essential Stripe Baby Blanket
- Christmas Granny Square Throw
- Rustic Stripe Blanket
- Dreamy Chevron Baby Blanket
- Striped Corner to Corner Blanket
- Ocean Waves Baby Blanket
- Granny Stripe Baby Boy Blanket
- St. Patrick’s Day Towel Topper
- Sedge Stitch Baby Blanket
- Valentine Heart Towel Topper
Would I continue this goal?
Yes, I would continue this goal. I’m hoping to find more motivation next year when it comes to designing crochet patterns. I just have to make it more of a priority to sit down and see what ideas I can come up with.
Crafty Goals #5: Create More and Don’t Worry about What to do with it Afterwards
One of the things I’ve always struggled with was not creating things or working on patterns because I wasn’t sure what to do with it afterwards. A lot of the patterns I currently work on are patterns to restock my Etsy Shop or things I know could sell well at craft fairs. At times, I find myself staying away from making items (even the ones I LOVE) because I feel like it would be a waste to make the item and not know what to do with it afterwards.
This year, I wanted to try and break that way of thinking and crochet all the things! If I find a purpose for them later, great! If not, I know I’ll still be able to share my pattern reviews with everyone and learn something new. I, personally, may not need another blanket, but I can always give it to a friend, list it on Etsy, or donate to charity.
PROGRESS: For the most part, I’ve been successful in crocheting different items. I’ve made a few items that were a little out of my comfort zone and ended up loving the result. Sometimes I still struggle with making items and not worrying about what to do when they’re finished. I just have to remind myself that I have options whether I end up listing it in my Etsy Shop or donating it to charity. I just have to keep on making things that make me happy. (GOAL-ongoing)
Would I continue this goal?
Yes, I would continue this goal. I don’t want to limit myself with what I make just because I’m unsure what will happen to it afterwards.
2019 Year-End Crafty Goals #6: Pattern Reviews
There are TONS of crochet patterns out there! I have a ton of patterns printed out, saved on Pinterest, and on my Ravelry page. I’m probably never going to get to all of them, especially as more and more patterns are released. However, I think it would be fun to try out different patterns to increase my crochet skills and learn a new stitch. Last year I’ve gotten rid of some patterns I know I’ll never make, so that helped make a tiny dent in my pattern hoarding.
PROGRESS: I have made some projects from my pattern stash this year. I’ve also accumulated more new patterns as well. There are even some patterns I tend to go back to again and again. I just have to make a conscious effort to look through my printed pattern stash every once in a while and purge what I know I’m never going to make. (GOAL-ongoing)
Would I continue this goal?
Yes, I would continue this goal, but it won’t be added to my crafty goals for next year. This is more of an ongoing goal that I will continue myself to see which patterns I like and don’t like.
Here are some of the patterns I reviewed this year:
